Bio: "J. Makary’s recent creative turn is in producing films and videos that employ AI tools but subvert the AI aesthetic. Her projects have screened at ICA Philadelphia, the Slought Foundation, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Mana Contemporary in New Jersey and Chicago, Satellite Miami, SPACES Cleveland, Spring/Break Art Show, Human Resources LA, and the American Dance Festival. Makary was named a Pew Fellow in the Arts in 2014 and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She has been an artist in residence at the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, the Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks, and RAIR Philly. As a guest curator at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, she programmed screenings in connection with the exhibition Michael Snow: Photo-Centric, and later founded Mother Ditch, a critique group for experimental film and animation artists in Los Angeles. Makary is currently pursuing a doctorate in Art History and Film and Media Studies at Stanford University, where she is supported by the Stanford Interdisciplinary Graduate Fellowship."
