Bio: Sea Dax is an interdisciplinary artist and maker who currently lives and works in Cincinnati, Ohio. He acquired his BFA at the Art Academy of Cincinnati in 2012. Sea has exhibited at many galleries including Wavepool Gallery (OH), the Contemporary Arts Center (OH), Thrd Space (TX), Limner Gallery (NY), and Artemesia Gallery in Windsor (AU). He is a recent Master of Fine Arts graduate from the University of Cincinnati DAAP. He began showing his ever-evolving collection of works titled trans[land]scapes in 2024, which has since expanded into a still life practice examining “trans still lives.”
Statement: Rooted in an enduring preoccupation with memory, Dax’s work traces the spaces, communities, and relationships that have shaped his sense of self. Within trans[land]scapes, he attends closely to trans-centric spaces he exists within, where identity is not only reflected but given safe space to be formed. Dax honors the environments that make transformation possible, rendering them as both witness and catalyst for trans experience. Beyond this project, Dax considers transition metaphorically and materially, asking us to consider the fruitful repository of trans allegory existing already within art historical spaces, religious texts, and art making methodologies.
