Bio: Connor Ashley Guterres is a self-proclaimed “whatever,” like Gonzo the Muppet. Art has always been a means of expressing this for them, and has become an even more important outlet as they’ve grown in their trans identity. Queerness and transness are central in their art practice as they work toward their BFA at Sonoma State University, concentrating on painting and drawing. Their work focuses on their personal experiences of gender, identity, and trauma, to let the viewer glimpse into a moment of their life. These elements are often exaggerated in Connor’s self-portraiture and work to connect with the audience on an emotional level. Their work has been featured in the Martin Wong Gallery, the Ridley Gallery, and the Sonoma State Gallery.
