Bio: Ray Gonzalez (he/they) is a trans/queer/disabled Cuban-American emerging artist who grew up in South Florida and now resides in Oakland. He attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts for a degree in Stage Management, and now uses their arts education for a second career as a Linoleum printmaker. Gonzalez believes in the connection between us all, in community as humans and as members of our natural world. As an artist, they strive to reflect the beauty of human interaction with nature and explore a path to repairing these connections for an enduring future.

Statement: “Self-Portrait of a Mortal Man” is an alternative perspective on the threshold of life after death. It’s about how life continues when all hope seems lost. We persevere. The seeds sown in one’s life transcends their time on this side of that portal. “I thought about how my actions impact the next phase of life. What seeds will I leave behind when I’ve crossed to the other side?
