Statement: Art making, for me, has been a potent form of cultural, spiritual, and emotional way finding. Though my work comes from a deeply personal place, my goal is not necessarily to tell my own story, but to offer objects that viewers can resonate with on varying levels. I work intuitively, calling on natural materials for their energetic richness and craft processes for their inherent poeticism. Many of the forms in my work can be traced back to traditional Chinese art, architecture, mythology, and herbalism. The piece for Hunter Gatherers is a patchwork of things found and foraged. It’s a box of memories laid open, a tangled web yet to be untangled. It is part love letter to my time here in Northern California, part goodbye.
