Bio: AMBER JEAN YOUNG BIO 2024 Amber Jean Young (b. 1984) is an interdisciplinary artist in Berkeley, CA recognized for her use of vibrant colors and patterns mixed with imagery of plant and animal life across mediums. Whether painting or hand building ceramics, Young explores themes of resilience, practice of cultivating joy, and whimsy despite living in times of great loss and trauma. Recent ceramic work reimagines the traditional ceramic urn as something other than a depressing, self-serious resting place for our cremated loved ones, but instead as a vessel that reflects the vibrancy, dynamism and even silliness of our lives. Looking to art movements of the past Young is inspired by the Pattern and Decoration movement of the 1980s the long history of floral and geometric patterns in quilt and textile design.
