Bio: Karin Dahl (she/her) is an artist and cartographer living in Oakland, CA. She has an MA in Anthropology from SFSU with an emphasis on archaeology and material culture studies. Her art practice includes textiles, watercolor, and collaborative explorations of relationship to place. In 2023, Dahl co-founded Makeshift Center for Material Studies as a gathering point for discourse and engagements with craft through skill-based workshops, free public events, reading groups, and collaborative projects that are in conversation with the larger history of making objects by hand. She views craft and art practice as a way people form relationships with and situate themselves within the material world, counterbalancing fast-paced consumerism and throw-away culture.
