Description: The monochrome treatment of the old collapsing barn, and its placement in the background of the painting, both refer to the gradual disappearance of this once-grand structure. Unused for years after being rendered obsolete by today’s agricultural processes, the roof has failed and the side wall has fallen forwards toward the viewer. The energy of the painting - line, color and collage - resides in its main subject: the woodpile into which the barn is metamorphosing.
