Description: Ghost Winds is a six-channel sound installation and sculpture that merges sound and form into an auditory landscape. Mapping extinct creeks onto the built environment, directional speakers emit unique vocal compositions, each transcribing a vanished waterway into Persian musical notation (dastgāh), and reflecting sound as laser beams, creating invisible pathways of echo that extend through the space. The work explores three themes: Indigenous dispossession (settler colonialism), acoustic warfare (weaponized sound), and Iranian eco-spiritual rituals, including the “wedding” of widows to drying waterways. The installation is anchored by Ayne (“mirror” in Farsi), a parabolic sculpture resembling an acoustic mirror or water clock, reflecting sound and light skyward to suggest a dialogue with the unseen.
