Hot sun beating down on lobster red skin, the intoxicating aroma of dried tequila and lime, chipped champagne bottles scattered across the Airbnb’s floor, vomit hidden in the hood of a stranger’s sweatshirt stashed behind the pleather couch, Liquid IV packets littered across the white sandy beach, peaking through a crack in the blackout curtains. The call heard from around the world—in some cases the one from inside the house—is “SPRANG BRAK BITCHES!”

The group exhibition SPRANG BRAK uses the haziness of spring break—a time of respite, reclusion, and formative experiences bookended by institutional order—as a departure point for ideas around play, naivety, sexuality, childlike wonder, and villain origin stories. With a curatorial approach akin to assembling a theatre set or creating a child's play world, SPRANG BRAK creates a space replicating the adolescent whimsy and sun-induced madness of summer/spring vacations.
