Bio: Elena Low is a San Francisco–based visual artist working primarily in oil painting. She received
a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Painting from New York University. Her work has
been exhibited in New York and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Statement: My work explores the tension between instinct and our cultivated identities, using layered
interior and exterior spaces as psychological metaphors. Working primarily in oil, I create
paintings that blur the boundaries between the domestic and the wild, containment and vitality. I
am interested in how this ongoing interplay shapes our inner lives and emotional experiences.
Informed by dreams and the subconscious, my paintings begin with an idea but are guided by
intuition, mood, free association, and the process of painting itself.
