Description: A United States Postal Service mailbox is reconstructed as the ancient Roman Mouth of Truth. The sculpture imagines archaeologists in 4087 mistakenly combining two unrelated objects into a single ritual device used for confession, communication, and the judgment of truth. This mistake in remembering reflects the exhibition’s larger question: how will ordinary objects be interpreted after their original meanings have disappeared?
