Description: A few years ago, my mother told me, “Women don’t have sexual desire” yet she now urges me to marry and have children. This contradiction—expecting virginity alongside childbirth—recalls the paradox of the Virgin Mary as both virgin and mother. This tension inspired me to make a work based on my experience and create an alternative mythology of the Virgin Mary undergoing asexual reproduction. In the work, I performed as a bride feeling narcissistic sexual desire by gazing into the mirror and rubbing my ears against the mirror, making it look like masturbation or lesbian sex. I wanted to make the ear look like a sexual organ and subvert its depiction in Christianity as the purest, most feminine, and obedient organ. 1-min excerpt link: https://youtu.be/fyJ1jUFfT4Y Full video link: https://youtu.be/YbwLRavJ__g
