Bio: I am a ceramic artist, and I throw on the wheel and use hand-building for sculptures. My style comes from growing up in cities like Oakland that showcased talented black artists of different mediums like music, food, fashion, and painting. I create my ideas in clay so I can use 3D visual aspects to show the beauty of nature and express my inner feelings about growing up in different parts of the Black community. I'm trying to create a style that uses different natural forms for common functional vessels, for example, turning flower blossoms into vessels like bowls and plates. Many of my forms are mimics of natural forms, textures, and color combinations. And scenes I encounter in my garden like the flowers in bloom or bees using flowers as shelter during the rain. My plans for the next 5 years are to start a small business, online and in-person sales, selling ceramics for the garden like flower pots, watering cans, and seed-holding trays. I would like to get started from what I learned in school, but would love the chance to talk and be in community with professional artists about ways to make my art business sustainable and community-oriented.
