Bio: Evgeniya Korotchenko (b. 1985) is a mixed media and ceramic artist whose practice grew out of a decade in research psychology, studying visual semantics and women's confidence. Born in the Soviet Far East, raised in Ukraine, educated in Russia, and based in Mexico for several years before settling in San Francisco in 2025, she carries that displacement into the studio. Working with clay, paper, and natural fibers, Korotchenko treats material behavior — clay that shrinks as it dries, paper that buckles when wet, fibers that refuse to align — as a register for how physical and emotional structures respond to force, and what new forms become possible past the point of break. Using contradiction between soft pastel colors and the harshness of these themes, her work returns persistently to displacement, structural collapse, and reconstruction, finding meaning in what is left absent or broken and treating fragility and resilience as inseparable qualities of the same material. She has exhibited in Mexico and the United States and received awards; her work is held in private collections in both countries
