Bio: My name is Amy Lange and I am an artist, curator, and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I work in textiles and soft sculptures, exploring psychology as it relates to the inner child. I received a BFA in Fibers from the University of Oregon in 2009, and an MFA in Studio Art from California College of the Arts in 2017. I am a founding member of both Borderline Art Collective and SF Artist Gift Shop, and have worked in arts education in classrooms and museums since 2011.
Statement: My work utilizes the consciousness of childhood to explore ideas of freedom, pathology, and transformation. Using blanket forts and other soft sculpture, my work centers children--they are my primary audience, no matter where the work is shown. Through prioritizing the experience of children in arts spaces, I am able to delve deeply into my own consciousness and explore the full range of my human experience, especially as it relates to fear and anxiety.
