Bio: Kayde Griffin was raised in the rural town of Corning, New York, within a multiracial family whose contrasts and closeness shaped his understanding of belonging. As a queer artist, he draws from an awareness that identity is layered and fragmented—shaped by family, lived experience, and the spirit's ongoing process of becoming. Working primarily in oil on canvas, Griffin often cuts, rearranges, and hand-sews his paintings back together as an act of repair, reflecting the continual process of becoming whole.
A self-taught painter before earning a BFA from the University at Buffalo, Griffin has remained deeply engaged in both his studio practice and the creative community around him. Since relocating to Oakland, California, in 2022, he has presented the solo exhibition Threaded Roots at the Queer Arts Center and participated in several group exhibitions, continuing to explore themes of identity, fragmentation, healing, and transformation through his work.
